Osceola is a small city positioned against the banks of the Mississippi River in northeastern Arkansas. It shares the title of County Seat of Mississippi County with Blytheville, Arkansas. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 7,086 people living in Osceola in 2016. Osceola is one of the largest cities in Mississippi County.
Original inhabitants of the area Osceola is located in were Native American Indians tribes. Steamboats traveling along the Mississippi River carried farmers, loggers, and settlers to the area. The area of modern-day Osceola began to grow as individuals realized it was an ideal location to harvest lumber and grow cotton. By 1853, a community had developed and was incorporated as Osceola. Osceola was again incorporated in 1875 after Mississippi County was formed.
Individuals who visit modern-day Osceola will discover a charming city. Agriculture remains a large part of Osceola. Today, farmers use GPS operated equipment and a wide variety of crops are grown. In the Osceola, many historical buildings have been preserved. City Hall is located in what was originally the Mississippi County Bank building. Osceola is also home to many recreation facilities and amenities. Florida Park is home to play equipment and is a favorite among locals. Riverlawn Country Club is located in western Osceola and is very popular as well. Despite its humble beginning, Osceola has become a beautiful, charming city.
Osceola is located in a region of the United States that experiences very warm summers and cool winters. During the months of June, July, and August, daytime temperature highs vary from the mid-80s to low-90s. When heat waves pass through Osceola, temperatures will rise to the low-100s. During the winter months, freezing temperatures are common and snow is possible. Cooling and heating systems should be installed in the homes of Osceola residents. These systems protect residents and their homes from potential damages caused by extreme temperatures.
